One small thing

One thing that I love

about living in a small town

is that I can buy my Christmas tree

at our local gas station

knowing that the trees come

from not too far away.

This love for shopping local is enough.

After all, who gets to buy a Christmas tree at a gas station?

Then there comes the sweet surprise

when the owner asks

“Can we drop it off at your house?”

Every year they send

a beautiful Christmas wreath

to hang over the church door

and now, just as we were about to toss

the tree onto our car

or stick it in the trunk

and brave the ride home

comes that small gracious question

“Can we bring it to you?”

They know where we live.
